A lot goes into the creation of a believable, immersive and inspiring game environment. It’s not just a collection of 3d models, textures and props that captivates the player’s imagination, but the vision behind it.
I’ll go through the creation of one of the maps in Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch, that takes place in a futuristic Busan, Korea. I’ll cover many aspects of its development, the initial research, early blockout geometry and finalization techniques. Spoiler: Don’t trust everything you see with your eyes 🙂
I’ll also offer directions if you want to start making your own 3d environments, for games, architectural visualization, virtual reality, educational software, simulations, etc… using tools that anyone can download and learn.
